Overview

IREM NYC is pleased to announce its 4th annual Asset Management Symposium, to be held March 24, 2011 at the McGraw-Hill Conference Center in New York City, from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Currently, over $128 Billion in real estate assets under management are represented on the speaker faculty.

About this conference:

During the heyday of low interest rates, transactions were the name of the game. Acquisitions, deal structuring and raising capital were king. Asset management dropped away as an area of focus for generating returns and creating value.

Today, asset management has re-emerged as the central focus of real estate value creation. The game of transactional musical chairs has effectively stopped and everyone is essentially “stuck” with the buildings they were holding when the bubble burst. The strategy now is to develop cash flow and reposition buildings to their highest and best uses. To do this, property-level asset managers are focusing on three core areas: operations, leasing, and capital improvements.

Featured Speaker:

James Walsh James Walsh, Head of Asset Management, JP Morgan Asset Management

James M. Walsh, Managing Director, is the head of the real estate Asset Management Group of J.P. Morgan Asset Management – Global Real Assets. Mr. Walsh had been a Senior Asset Manager for ten years responsible for various assets in the commingled funds and non-Erisa separate accounts. Mr. Walsh joined J.P. Morgan in 1984, as the chief financial officer for two foreign owned U.S. real estate portfolios. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan, Mr. Walsh was the Vice President of Finance and Accounting of Dusco Inc., a foreign owned real estate investment advisor with clients involved in the development and ownership of commercial real estate.
